A Funnel Cake Story

Imagine a young dreamer, just 10 years old, walking through Carowinds Amusement Park. He takes one bite of his very first funnel cake, and in that moment, something clicks. That dreamer was Patrick D. Young, and that single bite lit a spark that would shape his future. He went home determined to recreate that same magic in his own kitchen. After countless trials, plenty of flour on the floor, and a whole lot of patience, Patrick finally perfected his recipe. Before long, he was sharing funnel cakes with friends and family, watching their faces light up with joy and realizing that making people happy was something he truly loved to do.

A few years later, at just 16 years old, Patrick returned to the very place where it all began, this time as an employee. Fueled by passion and relentless drive, he quickly rose through the ranks to become one of the youngest food and beverage managers at the park, overseeing the same funnel cake stands that once inspired him as a child. What started as admiration had turned into responsibility, leadership, and a deeper understanding of service.

After earning degrees in Accounting and Business Management, Patrick knew it was time to turn a childhood dream into a real business. With strong faith, a lot of prayer, and the unwavering support of family and community, FUNOHCAKES was born. What began as a simple love for funnel cakes has grown into a brand that brings smiles to thousands across North and South Carolina and Atlanta, Georgia. From serving race fans at Charlotte Motor Speedway to partnering with Carowinds for major music festivals, FUNOHCAKES has become known for more than just great desserts—it’s known for creating moments, memories, and joy.

But Patrick’s journey has always been about more than food. In 2013, he founded the “Refuse to Lose and Stay in School” event at The Salvation Army Center of Hope, a cause close to his heart. Through this initiative, he encourages children to dream big, believe in themselves, and stay committed to their education, just as he once did.

Born from that same passion for joy and meaningful experiences, Funoh Brands Inc., home of the beloved FUNOHCAKES, expanded into premium ice cream with the launch of Funohcream. Staying true to a commitment to quality and excellence, the brand partnered with Blue Bell Ice Cream, bringing another layer of happiness to families and communities through trusted, high-quality treats.
